My one monthly goal for August is to make a small bag for my eighteen-month-old grand-daughter. My daughter-in-law has been looking for a suitably small bag as her daughter likes putting things away(!) in bags.
I've decided on the watermelon version of the Fruit Slice purse by Stitched by Crystal:
as my granddaughter loves watermelon.

I shall have to adapt the pattern because she can't manage a zip, and that would be frustrating. A flap and button will be easier, I hope.
This is the fabric I've chosen for the body of the bag. I still need to look out the lining fabric.
The pattern calls for "fusible fleece", but does this mean wadding/batting or interfacing (reinforcing fabric used in dressmaking in collars and cuffs and the facing of necklines etc.)? I'd be grateful if someone in the English speaking world could help me, as round here no-one seems to know the answer. Round here fleece refers to the fabric of some casual jackets and the winter lining of raincoats.
Hopefully, this will be finished before the end of this month, and while there are still watermelons in the market.

I’m sometimes confused with fusible fleece also. When I google it, I get both fusible batting and a fusible interfacing. In my experience, you might need a little bit of loft. So I think what ever you can find. It will be fine, for your granddaughter. I wonder how old she is? A zipper might challenge her to learn how to zip. My great granddaughter was just 3 when she figured out zippers because she wanted what was in the zipped up bag! Good luck. I’m sure it will be adorable!

I think it's fluffier than interfacing, but has more integrity than batting (it will hold it's own, more like interfacing). So it should give the pouch some shape and a little heft.
I'm not sure exactly what they mean by "fusible fleece" in the US. However I used to work for an Australian bag pattern designer, and what she recommended was a Freudenberg product which would probably be available to you as it is a German company. Might be sold as Vilene brand? Their H630 and H640 fusible wadding products (630 is a lighter weight, 640 gives more structure) are great for giving a bag some body. Marly, hi! Fusible fleece is batting that has glue or fusible on one side. It is thicker than interfacing. I usually use Pellon: http://www.pellonprojects.com/products/987f-fusible-fleece/
