RSC 15 week 21: More Green and a finish!

For the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Angela, at Soscrappy, gives a different colour each month and we concentrate on using up scraps in that colour for the whole month.

I took advantage of the absence of a sampler block this week to start making a trial block for the Drunkard's Path Quilt Along run by Anne at SpringLeaf Studios. The QAL started in January, but it took me until April to get suitable fabric. Here I'm using some scraps (one of which happens to be green!) and I didn't have quite enough teal to make the last leaf.

WIP: 16" Drunkard's Path block
I have only made one Drunkard's Path block ever, and that by hand, with about twenty pins in each unit, most of which were also in my hands before I finished! I don't remember who told me you could make them on the machine without pins, however an Internet search led to the most perfect video tutorial by Leanne at She Can Quilt. Drunkard's path ... on the machine ... NO PINS!

Absolutely brilliant - look, all four:  RIGHT FIRST TIME!! And now to cut the background "legs" and one more "leaf" section and piece the other twelve. I shan't be making  full-sized quilt, maybe just two blocks; I have yet to decide.

At the beginning of this week I finished last year's Rainbow sampler.

Too big for my assistant to comfortably hold!
I posted about it on Thursday so click here for more pictures and the story.

I'm linking up to

RSC 15 Pet Project Show

so go over there and see what else has been created this week.

Happy sewing

Marly.

Your quilt is wonderful! I'm still amazed when I see a year's worth of work come together. Now I'm off to read your earlier post...

Sorry, got sidetracked going back to look at the finished quilt post. Congratulations! Really a fabulous finish. Will have to go and check out the "no pin" curves tutorial. I am still in the phase of sticking my hands with many pins.

That may be the best sampler quilt ever! I'm charmed that even the quilting is a 'sampler'!
And thanks for the link to the pinless curve sewing. I've been a big pinner and have the scars to prove it...

I love how your sampler came out. It is gorgeous. Thanks for the tutorial link - drunkard path is on my list and I have a FQ bundle I got 4 years ago to make it with. Just need to stop the fear and give it a shot. With that tutorial I might get to it this year. Thanks!

It is such a great feeling to finish a quilt. Lots of little pieces in your rainbow quilt. You have worked hard and It looks beautiful : ) Yea for you!!! I am pinning it to my Pinterest board of rainbows.

I have not done much curved piecing so thanks for the link. Janita

Marly, I agree it's the best little tutorial on curved piecing I've come across. Stunningly easy after all my angst on curves. You've made a beauty first shot out, and thank you for linking up with Pink Doxies Pet Project Show today.

Your sampler is fabulous, and BIG! I love it!

Very cool Drunkard's Path block - I don't know if I've ever seen that layout (yikes! another block to try for RSC!). Your RSC Sampler quilt turned out wonderful! Love your idea for "scrappy" quilting in the border!

Very nice looking DP blocks. It's a block I've stayed away from, but maybe will give it a go after checking out that video.

Spectacular finish and fun quilting. Congrats on such a lovely finish.

I started a Drunkard's path last year and it's now a UFO. I see the QAL blocks are a little different from standard and I love the flowery looking layout.
