some pale blue bow ties

For August the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is pale and bright blue. I only had two pieces of pale blue large enough to make these two 6" blocks.

They look so washed out, and that isn't because it's raining so hard the whole world looks washed out from here, but because there isn't enough contrast between the pale blue and the neutral fabrics (and the weather doesn't help!). Maybe I'll only have two representatives of pale blue in my quilt.

I have some bright blue, but I used that in the "dark blue" month.

Are the two blocks on the right of the bottom row "dark blue" or "bright blue" ?

I also have these blues:

which I would have used in June, but find the print too big for these 6" blocks. They are bright in my opinion, but the print is still as large as it was in June!

And finally, still hot from the iron, my first 4.5" unfinished shoo fly block for the 2019 L&E challenge:

Lovely BLUE blocks for the RSC, Marly! Honestly, I think there is plenty of contrast in your light blocks. I can see why you might not want to use that set of larger scale prints, though. Any more Light BLUE hiding in your scrap stash???

I like all of your blues, whether light or dark! I often have trouble deciding what category they fit in, too.

I think the light blues are lovely! They don't look washed out to me at all. Your other blues are pretty, too.

I say....it’s your block, it’s your quilt! Angela’s colors are a jumping off point. Do what feels right. Large scale prints are a problem. See my monkeys in today’s posy, almost too big! Good luck. I have done a few Shoo Fly Shoo Blocks also....not my favorite!

I too am having a hard time finding light/bright blues. I found some that I could use but wasn't too sure if I had enough. Went to my LQS monthly meeting and won a coupon for a fat quarter. You guessed it! I went in search of a light/bright blue. Ended up with a feed sack print which worked.

I love your bow ties. Do you belong to a guild? Maybe you could ask a few friends to bring you a few pieces of light/bright blues. After all, that's what friends are for, right? Lol!

Love your blues. Your shoo fly block is adorable. I'm going to pass on the L&E challenge this year. I have too many irons in the fire. I'll cheer you on!

The pale blue may or may not play well in a wuilt that includes the darker blues but a set of pale blue bow ties would work well on its own.

I'm doing bow tie blocks for the challenge too, nice and easy and I enjoy stitching them. Your pale blue ones are lovely.
