Allietare!: still waiting for the grey!

Winter Mystery 2015 - Allietare!

Bonnie Hunter gave the first clue to her current mystery quilt at the end of November, and the final clue last Friday. I decided to make a smaller version, as we don't need another full size quilt, so started with the idea of making one quarter of the units given. Now I've seen the reveal I've decided to make a lap quilt/throw at half the size of the original.

I haven't done any of the clues using grey, as the grey I had bought turned out too dark; there wasn't enough contrast with black. Now I've seen the reveal I'm glad I waited, but that means I don't have anything like a finished top.

Here are the units I have made:

Clue 4
and a photo I took in Pisa a few years ago:

So much quilting inspiration here, and see all Bonnie's colours. I love Tuscany so I'm so glad I decided to join in, and hope to get the rest of this done in a few months.

I'm linking up to Quiltville:

Hop over there to see how some people have kept up, and completed the mystery quilt already!

Happy sewing

Marly.

Allietare is such a beautiful quilt that it is worth waiting to get the fabric you want to use.

I have made a half size quilt of 25 blocks and with the borders it comes out at just under 70" square... a bit large for a lap quilt! I wish I had made it a bit smaller now... possible 3 x 4 allietare blocks with 6 of the pisa blocks in between. Anyway... thought that might help with any decisions about size.

Cute neutrals!

The only real time-consumer in the gray is the HSTs, and even they will go fairly quickly, so you'll be caught up in no time. You'll be glad you waited for something you really love!

Lovely units, love your polka dot black. I used a polka dot too but much smaller dot. Your units and colors are great.

Really pretty, Marly! I started doing 1/2 of the clues and almost stayed on tract. I did need to make a few more as my quilt will have 32 blocks in total-so a large lap size. Just I wish I had a little more time this week to quilt! The blue in the design you showed would make a nice trade for the gray.

You've used some gorgeous scraps in your blocks. Hopefully your gray shows up soon and you can piece a few of the blocks.

I love your photo - a quilt with those colours will be beautiful once you have the grey.

What you have done is beautiful so far, and you may find yourself choosing an alternate color instead of gray. I have had fun seeing all the color choices that are different from Bonnie's suggested colors, which make each just a bit more unique. I decided to do green instead of gray, as nothing I tried worked. I went for brown instead of black when I chose my gold fabric that had some brown in it. What ever you choose, it has to make you happy! Thanks for sharing your blog thru the link up.
