RSC 17 January was purple!

Each month Angela gives a colour and worldwide lots of quilters get sewing their scraps in that colour. January's colour was purple, but the month was past before I got my purple bear's paws finished. You can see other people's purple patches here.

Although this month's colour is aqua I'm showing my catch-up purple efforts. January was a very dull and gloomy month, with very little sunshine, and, one way or another, a lot of purple. It seemed to be taking me ages to get these four pieces sewn. Work was exceptionally busy, and then there were other sewing projects calling to me!

January's purple pieces (made mostly in February!)
Finally I got these finished. Then while I was at it, I went on to complete the block; thus bringing a little warmth (at least colour-wise) into my life.

Two of the purple pieces sewn into their final setting. (Better light today: it's snowing and the reflected light is wonderful!)
All the blocks I made last year I sewed together in November, but didn't get round to posting about them. Here are four of the eight, photographed when I was trying to decide on the sashing colour.

medium grey sashing ...
or dark grey? Choices, choices!

What do you think? Which shade of grey would you choose?

Here is the reason I took so long over the bear's paws.
Something else with a lot of purple
The Quiltville 2016 mystery "En Provence!" which kept me (and some of you too, I'm sure) busy through December and most of January. The top is finished and I'm trying to make a panel from the left-over pieces to use on the back.

the bears crashed the photo!
This was the situation a week ago and it's taking shape with a total of seven blocks so far.

Happy sewing

Marly.

Your En Provence is so beautiful. Love the colours. Great Bear Paws blocks. I don't think you can go wrong with either gray for the sashing. Have you thought of doing a mix of the two grays. I've seen that done to create a little extra movement in the quilt.

Love the Bear's Paws! They will amke a very festive quilt. I like the darker sashing to show off the blocks a little better. And congratulations on finishing En Provence. It's lovely! Mine is still in pieces, sigh.

In my book it's never too late to show what you've been working on, regardless the colour. Love those bear paws in purple. Great job on En Provence. It's a beauty! Love the yellow star made with the leftovers of the mystery quilt. We have snow here too this morning. Enjoy the light! ;^)

Nice! I think I like the medium grey sashing a bit better, but it will look good either way.

So much beautiful eye candy! Your Bears Paw blocks are awesome and would look great on either color (although I personally like the darker one). Your En Provence is gorgeous! The weather here in Salt Lake is gloomy too. We're wondering if the sun will ever come out again.

I always love seeing your Bear Paw blocks! I like the darker sashing, too, probably because of the black and white fabrics in your blocks.

Personally, I would choose the dark gray and add a pop of color with cornerstones. You really can't go wrong with whichever you choose!!

SEW many beautiful projects!!!

For the sashing, normally I would say grey, but with all your terrific b/w fabrics, I think the darker one would bring them out better and blend in. Love the contrasting colors in each set of four paws.

Your En Provence quilt is just gorgeous Marly and I love the bear paw blocks too. My preference is for the lighter grey sashing but that is just a personal preference the dark works well too! Christine x

Your blocks are beautiful. I like the purple and orange combination. Maybe you should make more blocks before you decide on sashing? I am sure either one would look good. It just depends on the feel that you want for the finished quilt. I'm not too good at that stuff! LOL

I am leaving my email address because it has been pointed out to me that I am a "no reply" blogger. I am not too good at this blog thing, but I will change that as soon as I figure out how to do it!

Love your little blocks, but I prefer the lighter grey over the dark. Love seeing BH quilts come together, never been game to tackle one myself, but this looks fantastic.

Hello colorful Marly. did you knit anything with that yarn yet? Did I miss it?
It's gloomy here near Washington DC and has been since... well, everyone knows.

I do love your bears paws! Personally I like the lighter grey for the sashing. The darker one seems to draw attention to the contrast between block and sashing, while the lighter one lets the contrast and colour within the block be the star.

Congratulations on getting En Provence together! Bonnie came up with another beautiful quilt for us all this year.

En Provence is so pretty!
I love, love, love your bear paws blocks. I always go with the darker sashing, it makes the blocks POP!

I love those gorgeous bear paws! The colors are beautiful, and the black and white prints bring out the best in them. I like the darker sashing - looks like opinion is pretty evenly divided on that choice!
Your En Provence is beautiful! I'm at the assembling-borders point with mine; I just made nine blocks, like you did, for a quilt that looks like it's going to be plenty big!

Love your Bear Paw blocks! I' probably go with the lighter gray for the sashing. En Provence was fun, but wow, what a lot of stitching! Your version turned out beautifully.

So fun seeing these blocks come together. I like the darker grey, it makes the colors pop a little more than the softer grey - but either choice would look lovely.
